Last updated: 8 October 2026. Checked against OpenAI’s Help Center on that date. ChatGPT’s ad platform is changing quickly, so confirm current terms in Ads Manager before committing budget.
ChatGPT ads in India went live in late August 2026. Unlike the US pilot, which started with a six-figure minimum and sales-led access, India launched with agency-managed campaigns first and a self-serve Ads Manager a few days later, at a daily minimum most small businesses can actually afford. Here is what is confirmed, what is still unclear, and how to decide whether it is worth a test.
Are ChatGPT ads live in India?
Yes. Reporting dates the rollout to the week of 28 August 2026. The first wave ran through agencies, with WPP and Omnicom named as launch partners supporting more than 50 brands, and a self-serve Ads Manager opened on 4 September. OpenAI’s own Ads Manager availability page now lists India as available for self-service. One condition applies: the legal entity that advertises and is billed must be based in a listed country.
Who actually sees ChatGPT ads in India?
OpenAI says it does not show ads to users on Plus, Pro or any Business plan, or to accounts identified as belonging to users under 18. Launch reporting adds that ads appear for logged-in adults on the Free and Go tiers. That has a practical consequence worth thinking through (this part is our inference, not something OpenAI has published): if your customers are professionals likely to be on paid business plans, many of them will never see your ad inside ChatGPT. If you sell to consumers who research conversationally on a free or low-cost plan, the exposed audience is closer to your buyers.
How much do ChatGPT ads cost in India?
For a rupee-billed account, OpenAI’s campaign documentation lists a minimum daily budget of ₹725 (the minimum varies by billing currency). Spend exactly the minimum for a 30-day month and you are at about ₹21,750. Two details on how the budget works:
- The daily budget is a weekly average. On any single day, spend can reach up to twice your daily budget, and over a Sunday-to-Saturday budget week it will not exceed seven times the daily budget. If a campaign uses its weekly allowance early, it can stop delivering until the next week even while marked active.
- Bidding is auction-based. OpenAI uses a relevance-weighted, second-price auction. You can buy on views (CPM), clicks (CPC) or conversions (oCPC, which still charges for valid clicks, not conversions). For click campaigns, OpenAI suggests starting with a maximum bid of $3–$5 per click.
There is no established benchmark for cost per lead yet, because the channel is weeks old and pricing depends on competition and targeting. Treat early spend as a test, not a forecast. For comparison, we typically recommend starting Google and Meta campaigns at ₹25,000–₹50,000 a month, so the ChatGPT minimum sits in the same range.
What does a ChatGPT ad look like, and how does targeting work?
Ads do not appear inside the answer. They appear below ChatGPT’s response, with an advertiser name, favicon, headline, description, landing page and image. Targeting works differently from Google or Meta:
- Context hints: at the ad-group level, you describe in plain language the conversations, topics or keywords your product is relevant to. OpenAI is explicit that these are not exact-match keywords and do not guarantee delivery in specific conversations.
- Geography: country-level targeting, according to launch coverage
- Optimisation goal: views, clicks or conversions
- Not available: targeting individuals based on the content of their private conversations
Reporting in the Ads Manager beta currently covers impressions, clicks, spend, click-through rate, average CPC, average CPM and conversions. Spend can lag by several hours, so a displayed spend of zero does not always mean no charges have accrued.
What about the UAE?
OpenAI’s availability page lists the United Arab Emirates as available for self-service Ads Manager, alongside India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. The same condition applies: the advertising and billing entity must be based in a listed country. What that page does not tell you is how many UAE users currently see ads, so access to the platform and reach inside the country are two separate questions. Check the live country list and test with a small budget before planning around it.
Should your business test ChatGPT ads now?
It is worth a small test if you already run Google or Meta campaigns profitably, you have conversion tracking in place, and your customers are the kind of people who ask an AI assistant for recommendations before they buy.

Wait if you cannot yet measure leads or sales from your ads, your budget is below the daily minimum, or your buyers are senior decision-makers more likely to be on a paid business plan where ads do not appear.
Either way, cap the downside: decide the test budget in advance, and judge it against your cost per lead on Google and Meta rather than on clicks alone.
How to run your first ChatGPT ads test
- Set up conversion tracking first, and add UTM parameters to your landing page URLs so ChatGPT traffic shows up separately in your analytics
- Pick one offer and one landing page that answers a specific question
- Write the ad the way a helpful answer reads, not like a banner ad
- Describe the question your customer actually asks in the context hints
- Start with a daily budget at or near the minimum for two to four weeks before drawing conclusions
- Compare cost per lead against your Google and Meta numbers, then decide whether to scale or stop
How do paid ChatGPT ads relate to showing up organically in ChatGPT?
They are separate. An ad sits below the answer and is paid for per click or impression. Being mentioned inside the answer is earned, through the kind of work we describe in our guide to getting recommended by ChatGPT. FAQ
Are ChatGPT ads available in India?
Yes. Ads began appearing in late August 2026, and OpenAI’s availability page lists India as available for self-service Ads Manager. The advertising and billing entity must be based in a listed country.
How much do ChatGPT ads cost in India?
OpenAI’s campaign documentation lists it as ₹725 for a rupee-billed account, about ₹21,750 over 30 days. Actual cost per click or lead is not yet established and depends on competition and targeting. OpenAI suggests a starting maximum bid of $3–$5 per click for click campaigns.
Will ChatGPT Plus users see my ads?
No. OpenAI does not show ads to users on Plus, Pro or any Business plan, or to accounts identified as under 18. Launch reporting says ads reach logged-in adults on the Free and Go tiers.
Can I advertise on ChatGPT from the UAE?
Self-service access is listed as available for the UAE, provided the advertising and billing entity is based in a listed country. How many UAE users currently see ads is a separate question, so start with a small test.
Is it worth it for a small business?
As a small, capped test, often yes, provided you can measure leads. As a replacement for Google or Meta, not yet: the channel is new and the data is thin.
